By Trevor Kugler Let's start with the barometer. The barometer is a very effective tool for measuring the feeding behavior of fish. The barometer is an instrument used to measure ambient atmospheric pressure. Don't worry, I'm going to simplify it for you and cut through all of the scientific jargon so we can get to what really matters, catching fish. The measure of barometric atmospheric pressure can then be used to help predict the weather and more importantly for our purposes, the feeding behavior of fish. Haven't we all wondered why fish were so easy to catch yesterday, but today you can't even get a bite? You see when a low pressure front is building, I'm sure you've all heard this term on the weather channel, the barometer is low and dropping and a storm is either present or on its way. When the barometer is high or rising, the weather is fair and dry. If youre watching the weather on the TV, that's what the large capital L or H means on the weather map. The L stands for a low pressure system and the H stands for a high pressure system. So what does this mean to me as a fisherman? Let me explain. The barometer is a very useful tool that will unlock many of the "mysteries" of fishing. You say, "Come on Trevor, is this really true?" The answer is yes, it is true. When the atmospheric pressure fluctuates, it affects the air bladders in fish. A fishes' air bladder is what it uses to stabilize itself at different depths of water. When a fishes' air bladder isn't feeling right it won't want to eat. Do you feel like eating when you have an upset stomach? Well fish dont either. When the barometer is low or falling, fish will spend most of their time equalizing their air bladder, and the last thing they're thinking about is feeding. When this happens you'll have a difficult time fooling a fish into eating. On the other hand, when the opposite is true, and the barometer is rising, your chances of catching a fish, is far greater, because they feel more like eating. Fish and wild life know what to expect from the weather and can sense when a storm is approaching to a much greater degree than we humans can. Youve probably noticed that when the weather is nice all of the critters outside are active and frolicking about. This means that the barometric pressure is stable or high. On the other hand when the barometric pressure is low, you won't see nearly as many animals around and the ones you do won't be frolicking anywhere. Even the cows in your local field will be lying down. At times like this it can get pretty quiet out on the lake or river too. The fish just arent active. Understanding how fish adapt to changes in their environment allow an angler to better predict a fishes' movement and feeding. Finding out when a fish is feeding is what we're interested in because that's when you have the best chance of catching said fish. You may know that almost all saltwater fishermen check the tides before they head out fishing. And its a great strategy because the tides impact fishing. But you do realize what causes the tides to change, don't you? That's right, the moon. And the gravitational pull of the moon that impacts the changing tides is also pushing against some part of the earth all the time. So the pressure is always there but since water is more easily moved than the ground, water is lifted up towards the moon causing the tides to change. How high the high tide will rise or how low the low tide may go is largely determined by the position of the moon and sun. Knowing and understanding this information isn't just important to the saltwater angler though. Freshwater anglers don't deal with tides like saltwater anglers, but the phases of the moon are very important to them as well. What the angler wants to focus on are the new moon and full moon periods on the calendar. The two or three days following these two occurrences will result in more fish activity. It's that simple. Ive been planning my fishing trips observing these same principles for years and it almost never fails. The moon phases are a very real factor in the feeding patterns of fish. I always have more success during the full and new moon periods, than I do at other times of the month and you can too. What you as an angler wants to try to do is have both of these factors come together at the same time. The perfect weather situation combined with a full or new moon. Creating Mini Scrapbook Albums

If you plan the scrap a few weeks in advance, everyone will have a chance to look through their own photos and decide what theyd like to put into their mini album. Some great suggestions for these mini albums are: 1. A day at the races

3. The championship ball game
4. The parade floats
5. Cars from the car show Of course there are tons of other themes you can choose. Maybe you want to just send grandma some updated photos of the kids. Mini albums help use up your scrap paper and loose supplies. Ask everyone coming to bring their extras. I tend to have many tools for scrapbooking, but if I know someone has a tool I dont own, Ill ask them to bring that along too. I know some women enjoy snacks. I usually dont provide snacks as no one wants spilled food, or sticky fingers on the scrapbook supplies. However one suggestion that is fun is to all have dessert after the scrapping is done and the table is cleared off. Mini albums do not have a lot of space for embellishments, so often the mini album can be completed in one evening. Its also fun to use paper and supplies that others have brought that you may not own. If you know someone on a really tight budget, invite her also. Its a great opportunity for her to create a great keepsake and not have to spend money on supplies herself. Let her know there will be plenty of supplies. Suggest she come early so no one knows what she did or didnt bring along to share. Or make a suggestion of a few supplies she can purchase for under $5, such as stickers, then she too will be contributing. When, Why, and How You Should Carry Out a Media Audit

By Clark Turner Why should I media audit? The main reason is to make the most of your marketing budget! The upsides could be huge. Even if your media budget is only 1 million and your agency is only 5% off the average on a cost/quality measure, you are missing out on a value of 50,000. On a budget of 10 million, that equates to half a million pounds of lost value! An audit will identify areas for your agency to develop, and so provide you with better value for money. Remember its not just about the price you pay, but the quality of the media you are getting too. You should audit your media agency if you think they may not be delivering to the targets you have set them in a competitive nature. With such a large percentage of top advertisers employing auditors, you could argue that you have to employ one, because otherwise unscrupulous agencies may avoid giving you the least good pieces of media, saving the best for clients that are! They know that it will be recognised and rewarded there, whilst you wont know about their tricks! Why is media auditing necessary? Prices and values for media are in a constant fluctuation: the variation in value that advertisers get from media owners can be enormous. For example, we have personal experience of similar pages in a magazine being sold to different advertisers in the same issue for a difference of 300% or 400%! Chair a meeting between the auditor and your media agency to kick off the process and comprehend what the auditor needs. Also, set a deadline for completion. 5. Make sure the auditor does a pre-meeting with the agency so that they have a chance to articulate their feedback about the findings of the audit. 6. Hold a debrief with the agency present, but by all means speak to the auditor independently. 7. If the audit is negative, set some performance targets within a set time-frame for the agency to improve. After six months, do another audit to see if they have met the targets. 8. If the audit is extremely negative (if say, the agency is more than 10% away from the average) consider whether this is the right agency for you. 9. If the audit is good, take your agency out to a damn good lunch and buy them lots of drinks! But accidental artwork on other surfaces around the home are not things you want hanging around. If you have crayon mashed into the carpet, you can't remove it quite the same way as wax, which is a mistake that many people have made. You should first scrape off all the crayon you can, either with a spoon or dull side of a blade like a butter knife. A thin piece of cardboard such as part of a cereal box will come in handy. Cut a section and place it behind the clump/spot where the crayon is, then carefully spray the crayon mark with WD-40 oil, making sure to use the "needle nozzle" tube so the oil doesn't get on more than it needs to. Next, take a small, stiff bristle brush and work upwards in the nap, while laying the crayon mark on the cardboard. Wipe with paper towels. Spray on more WD-40, work in some dish detergent with the brush, then wipe off with a damp sponge. Move your cardboard around, so that you're always working against a clean section.
