By Roger Matthews There are many advantages to using affiliate programs to increase your earnings but there are also a few things you should keep in mind. Most of us, especially early on, believe that the companies with affiliate programs are more than willing to pay it's hard-working affiliates a commission. After all, you're doing your part by sending them customers right? Most of the time they're above board but it's not always the case. What if I told you that by adding one simple, seemingly innocuous thing to their landing pages they can, and do, steal away you commissions? The affiliate landing page is the page you, or a visitor, "lands" on when you click the affiliate link containing your unique affiliate tracking code. That page is where you send your valuable visitors to buy a particular product or service. It's an important page and when you sign up for an affiliate program you should always check that page before deciding to link to it from your site. What could possibly be on that page that could literally steal your referrals and, in turn, your commissions like a thief in the night? It's very simple, a 1-800 number. Back in 1999 I was the webmaster for an internet mall. The mall directory was categorized by the types of products and services I thought would be useful and attractive to my visitors. I worked hard to create a large directory of affiliate web sites that sold the products and services I thought might interest my visitors. I had a link to my affiliate landing page, a brief description of the company and a feedback form for each business I linked to. The feedback form proved to be a very valuable tool. Not only did it give me valuable feedback from my visitors about a particular site, it's customer service and it's product or service but it also occasionally notified me when a visitor to my site made a purchase. I regularly read the feedback my visitors were sending me. It was valuable information and helped me evaluate what worked and what didn't. On one occasion I received feedback on a tobacco company and box of rather expensive cigars that one of my visitors purchased. My visitor had reported that the tobacco company's customer service representative was friendly and helpful over the phone and that he was very happy with his purchase. Later that day, thinking that I had received a commission on that sale, I viewed my third-party tracking statistics and looked for my commission on the sale. It wasn't there. Remembering that my visitor had mentioned that he had spoken with someone I decided to check my affiliate landing page for a company phone number and sure enough, there it was. It stood out like a sore thumb. Scrolling down the page I saw it again at the bottom of the page. The first thing my visitor saw when he reached my affiliate landing page was the company's 800 number. It was in bold type and very visible. It was the first thing that caught your eye when the page finished loading. It was big, bold and obvious. I called the company and spoke with an affiliate support representative and let them know what product was purchased and on what date. They informed me that there was "No way" they could verify that my visitor purchased anything from them because it wasn't tracked. I told them that they should not have a 800 number on their landing pages but my comment was ignored. They continued to carry that 800 number on their affiliate landing pages and may still to this day. I lost a nice commission and they lost an affiliate. I have no idea how many commissions I may have lost to their 800 number. I immediately checked every other landing page and found a few others. I immediately removed them all from my site. I would like to suggest a feedback form. The information you get from your visitors may be very valuable to you and may help you locate problems. If there's an 800 number featured on any of your affiliate landing pages I would seriously consider removing any links to that site. If the number isn't very noticeable it may not be a problem but featured 800 numbers are leaches that can suck up your commissions before you realize it. Be sure to check your affiliate landing pages for any perceivable problems. Good luck! Roger Matthews is a webmaster and long-time affiliate. Corporate Incentive Programs
By Ken Marlborough After procuring and training employees, maintaining and utilizing them effectively in the organization is the concern of management and personnel administration. In doing this, both the employee and management should be satisfied. The management cannot satisfy and utilize the skill of an employee effectively by keeping him in the same job that he was originally hired for. The employee has an urge to improve and move up in the organization. The services and loyalty of an employee are to be rewarded reasonably. The higher positions in the organization have to be filled from within by moving employees from one job to another. Promotions and transfers meet this. Promotion can be defined as the upward reassignment of an individual in an organizations hierarchy, accompanied by increased responsibilities, enhanced status and usually increased income. Also, some experts define promotion as the advancement of an employee to a better job in terms of greater responsibilities, more prestige or status, greater skill and an increased rate of pay or salary. In corporate terms, better hours or better location or working conditions may also characterize the better job that an employee seeks, but if the job does not involve greater skill or responsibilities and higher pay, it should not be considered a promotion. The term upgrading refers to a practice closely related to promotion. In fact, it amounts to a small- scale advance in status. Upgrading is the movement of an employee to a more responsible job within the same occupational unit and with a corresponding increase in pay. For example, in the claims department of an insurance company a junior approver moves up to the position of approver. Both upgrading and promotion are ways of recognizing and developing the abilities of employees within the organization, instead of filling positions from outside. However, for certain highly skilled or professional jobs, it is often necessary to recruit from outside. Incentive Programs provides detailed information on Incentive Programs, Employee Incentive Programs, Corporate Incentive Programs, Safety Incentive Programs and more. Incentive Programs is affiliated with Pay Per Click Affiliate Programs. Kids and Medication Part I
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lance_Winslow] Lance Winslow We have all talked a lot about the problems in our educational system, about latchkey kids, about teacher turnover (50 percent of teachers quitted within the first five years on the job), psychologists over prescribing medications such as Prozac and Ritalin with our friends and families. We can all foresee a terrible problem in the future because we are feeding these drugs to kids under the age of six, their brains have not been fully formed yet and these drugs and their predecessors and competing drugs all have adverse side effects. There are over 10,000 chemicals that the brain reacts to, there are over 2000 chemicals in the brain in any one time, in your brain is reacting to 20 or 30 of those chemicals in a big way. And along comes in new enhancements. Why because we're not allowed to discipline or own children, we might be turned in for child abuse. God help you if you smacked her child for mouthing off, hitting their siblings, or general rude behavior. Benefit teacher doesn't they can go to jail to. So what happens when Johnny is bad the sandbox; he is put into a corner as a punishment away from the other kids and we call this a timeout. On the other hand if we give Johnny a Swift kick in the rear, then maybe he might learn something. When he acts out they put him in a corner and then he wants attention, so he further misbehaves; so the teacher says into the office and the principal calls in a special psychologists who refers little Johnny to the medical nurse, who calls Johnny single mom at work which embarrasses her, you see Johnny's father left and he is a deadbeat dad, unwilling to pay for Johnny's costs even though he brought Johnny into the world and now Johnny's mother doesn't know what to do, so they convince her that her child has ADHD. When in reality Johnny is just like all the other kids a little hyper all the time probably has to much sugar at home in being young has just a ton of energy. Since Johnny lacks the discipline of a child under supervision, without father around he isn't a lot of trouble as do most kids were not discipline. But instead disciplining Johnny they decide to drug him instead. Johnny now is on drugs and ever been really discipline ever assumes that he has a problem because his mother, teacher, nurse, Dr., principal say so. Now Johnny has lower expectations of himself as do his elders best Johnny performed on to that ability which is right around 0. Johnny acts off gets into trouble, becomes a juvenile delinquent tries a few drugs with his friends does a little graffiti causes of any crimes and decides to join a gang. Where is mom, trying to make ends meet without the assistance of Johnny's dad who has skipped how sold his construction company to a friend who pays them five dollars an hour. Thus Johnny's dad is unable to make restitution and the courts changes restitution to such a small amount it isn't even worth Johnny's moms trouble to try to collect. And it's certainly isn't worth her trouble to share custody rights. So when you look at George W. Bushs plan to keep the families together, especially low income families where the mom has to work and support for kids you can see the incredible problem we have in why something must be done. Either we have discipline the schools and When two people have the kid they stick together and raised a child in a responsible for child or we all pay later for more prisons, prison guards, rehab facilities, police officers student faculty support employees etc. do you know right now that the nurse gives a child and aspirin that child must get a note from their parents. However if that child needs an abortion, that child can get an abortion without the school ever contacting the parent, give me a break. The easy issues affect every employer at the store level due to unmanageable employees they might have and their productivity goes South all too often, this affects their ability to work and pay into the system or advance in a company. When a kid does drugs and gets into trouble we all pay. If that child grows up into a life of crime it costs more to keep that child in prison for one year that it does to send them to two years of college, so you figure it out either we drop the BS stop over Medicating and start disciplining or we will pay later and we will pay dearly. We just have to stop feeding our kids drugs for mood enhancement. We know these drugs have side effects. Lets look at these for a bit one by one. Adderall is a amphetamine which is taken once per day and stops areas of the brain responsible for organizing thoughts; it has some very real side effect such as rapid heart beat, high blood pressure and sometimes over stimulation and can become addictive. With Concerta it keeps the neurons with lots of norepinephrine and dopamine, which reduces hyperactivity and inattention, and its side effects include head aches, stomach pain, sleeplessness and can cause over stimulation. Strattera was the first non-stimulant which enchances norepinephrine levels in the brain and also has some serious side effects, which include; decreased appetite, fatigue, stomach pain and nausea. Ritalin is an active agent, methylphenidate to stimulate the brain to filter and prioritize incoming information. But the side effects we know too; Headaches, lack of appetite, irritability, nervousness and insomnia. Methypatch is the patch form of the methylphenidate and delivers continuous doses through the skin. Dating Advice! Where Safety Always Comes First
By William Lezubski Dating advice for people dating online, where safe dating will always be a priority! For many of you that are starting to move from the traditional local dating avenues to find relationships and love, and are now using dating online as your source, keep in mind that common sense must still be an important element when involving your dating relationships online. Before you decide what dating sites to use, make sure you read their dating tips that provide valuable information on how to best keep you safe. Some will send you articles and newsletters and provide tips online to keep you up to date on security issues. Even if you're fully aware of the bad things that can occur out there, it's always good to have a site that cares enough to remind you from time to time. If safety is a major priority and concern as you venture online, there are many available dating sites that focus on your privacy and well being, as well as having all the proper screening tools. You will find dating information in more detail directly on their sites, and you will see that they will emphasize the key features they use to assist in providing a peace of mind experience. Take the time to read their articles; they may give you valuable tips from finding love to how to keep safe while dating people on the Internet. If they have member profiles issuing testimonials on their experiences, read them and see how they like the service offered. Even though women have built in instincts, it's always good to be reminded that online relationships should be treated with a careful approach, just the same if you were to meet singles in your own community. Once you become a member, make sure the dating company has blocking features for the emails, and that they keep your email address confidential. This should also apply to the personals, and chat services. On your end make sure you never provide personal contact information, full name, and never give out your home phone number! Another important detail to remember is if you ever feel uncomfortable with a member that could be a little too aggressive, or is presenting something that is false, make sure you contact the dating company's customer service assistance line and advise them of the actions. This is imperative to eliminate the bad apples out there, so you can enjoy your dating relationships online to find romance and love! Depression Treatment-Metaphors For Seeing Depression as a Gift
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lara_Honos-Webb,_PhD]Lara Honos-Webb, PhD It may seem Pollyannaish to view depression as a gift. The gift of depression is its ability to wake you up and make you do something different and change your life. Fly Metaphor One time I saw a fly inside a car banging its head over and over again against a car window. It seemed as if it would injure itself as it repeatedly tried to escape the car by flying into the window, bouncing back and trying again. The irony was that the window on the other side of the car was open, and all it had to do was stop trying to move forward, turn around, and fly out the other side. Similarly, there are times when if you force yourself to try to move forward and overcome obstacles by sheer force of will you may cause yourself
great injury, to no avail. There are times when the most effective strategy is to stop in your tracks and to contemplate your situation rather than bulldozing ahead. For example, if the fly had stopped and turned around, it might have noticed the other window offered an easy escape into freedom. Depression, which often leads to a withdrawal of life energy from current life situations, may be a gift in reorienting you to finding an alternative strategy for your lifes problems. Unlike the fly, you can turn around and re-evaluate your situation. Navigation Metaphor When a plane flies across the country it is given a navigation system to help it stay on its flight path so it will get where it is supposed to go and so it will not interfere with other airplanes in flight. If the plane deviates even slightly off of its trajectory, the navigation system alerts the pilot and the corrective changes are made so that airplane stays on course. Similarly, depression can be a signal alerting you to the fact that you have gone off course. Lara Honos-Webb, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist. Which Marketing Solution is Right for You?
By Jane Hendry If you're running a small business, then at some point you may be faced with the problem that you want to gear up your marketing in order to grow the business, but at the same time you're afraid of getting it wrong and losing whatever you invest in it. Whilst large businesses can afford to throw large amounts of money at campaigns, and absorb the losses if their marketing doesn't work, small businesses need a return on every pound they spend. They need some level of certainty that the money and effort they invest is going to produce good results. Otherwise, what can happen is that they keep doing what they're already doing (which probably isn't working that well), or they blow a load of money on advertising or marketing solutions that don't work, and then lose faith in outside help or marketing altogether. If you want to avoid wasting money on marketing and advertising, or getting burnt by marketing consultants then you'll want to minimise your risks and invest your money in solutions that work for you. As you read this article you'll discover 5 options for learning how to do your own marketing or recruiting outside help, and the advantages and disadvantages of each option. 5 Options for Learning Marketing Skills or Getting Help with Marketing 1) Learn how to do it yourself through reading books, attending workshops, using audio programmes etc. The obvious advantage of this is that it's the cheapest option, plus as you learn to do things for yourself, you retain control of your marketing programme. However, the major drawbacks are that the learning curve is very steep and it may take a long time to learn what works, plus you may end up learning a lot of generic information that doesn't directly apply to your business or that doesn't give you an actual step by step plan. You may learn what to do, but not how to do it or the exact steps you need to take to implement what you've learnt. 2) Use a marketing consultant/agency The advantage of this is that you effectively hand over the problem to someone else who deals with it on your behalf, leaving you to get on with what you do best. The disadvantages of this option are that you don't learn what works for your business and you are no longer fully in control of your marketing function - so you won't know why some things work and others don't. Also, this is probably the most expensive option, and some marketing consultants have got a tendency to prescribe their pet solution, before even diagnosing the actual problem and the situation. Not only that, but if your problem is, for example, lack of sales, and you decide the solution is PR, and then hire a PR consultant, they will work to your brief. In other words, you've diagnosed the problem and precribed the solution. However, PR may not be the best solution to your problem, and a proper analysis of your target market and your current activities, budget and opportunities is required before forming the conclusion that a PR consultant is the answer. 3) Group coaching/training programmes The advantage of this is the lower cost plus regular classes and fieldwork that keep you on track. Some people will benefit from working in a group, especially as they learn from the experiences of others, and particularly if there is a "buddying" system in place. The disadvantage is the lack of personal coaching/consulting or significant input from the expert in examining your particular situation. Not only that, but you'll be going at a pace as dictated by the course outline, when you might want to move considerably faster or even slower. Also, most programmes go through a range of strategies as decided by the programme creator, some (or many) of which are not applicable to your particular situation. This is especially true if the programme is designed for the generic "small business" - what works for a dry cleaning business may not work for a consultant, coach or professional. The result is that you may be learning 10 or 12 strategies at a rather superficial level, rather than homing in on the 2 or 3 strategies that are really going to deliver results into your business, and which are manageable. 4) One to one business/marketing coaching The advantage of this is the personal attention, and the ability to address your specific issues. This works out a little more expensive than a group training programme, but less expensive than hiring a consultant. How this works varies widely and a lot depends on whether the coach is using a coaching model (i.e. they guide you in working out your own solutions) or a marketing model (they take on a role more similar to a consultant than a coach, and tell you what will work for your situation). Most do not seem to offer any structure, specific outcomes, or programme of activities so it can be hard to tell what you're getting for your money. 5) A Structured Programme of consulting, training and mentoring delivered one to one In this scenario the consultant uses a structured series of exercises to analyse the client's situation, help them build their marketing foundation, overcome problems and obstacles standing in their way and works with them to create a series of marketing actions that will work best for them. This typically costs about the same as marketing coaching, but has more tangible outcomes and the consultant will also be doing things on the client's behalf in between sessions. The advantages are that the client is fully in control of their own situation and is being guided and taught how to do things for themselves. The consultant will also use their expertise to steer the client towards solutions that will work for their situation, their market and their type of business, and filter out approaches that are irrelevant or less likely to produce good results. The disadvantages are that you still have to do the work yourself (unless you pay for help with implementation), and if the consultant is helping you to craft your message and build your foundation, then there may be a delay before any strategies get fully implemented. This is really the approach that is analogous to building your house on rock rather than on sand - it takes a little longer to lay the foundations, but it's a sturdier, stronger solution in the end. 2006 Jane Hendry, Attractioneering Jane Hendry helps professionals, consultants and coaches to create marketing systems that easily and consistently attract their ideal clients. Macau: Past, Present and Future of Betting
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jack_Reider]Jack Reider Macau in the Peoples Republic of China is turning into the Asian equivalent of Las Vegas. Since many of the biggest Las Vegas casino companies set foot in Macau, it has become a leading resort destination in the world offering top Las Vegas style casino hotels. The history of gambling in Macau begins in the 19th century, when Macau was still a Portuguese colony. Since 1847, when the Portuguese government legalized gambling in the colony, Macau was famous as the Monte Carlo of the Orient. Back then, the most popular game in Macau was the Chinese game Fan Tan. The boost of the Macau betting industry occurred after the Portuguese government contracted the Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau with a casino monopoly franchise in the early 1960s. The STDM opened several casinos that offered all types of gaming including Western casino games as well as greyhound racing and horse racing. In 1970, the Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau, operated by Stanley Ho opened Casino Lisboa. The 3 story complex helped strengthen Macau's reputation as the Monte Carlo of the Orient by offering 24 hours of betting entertainment including a wide variety of Chinese and Western casino games, top performances, 15 restaurants, bars, swimming pool, and deluxe accommodations. Up until the 2000s, Casino Lisboa had no competition. It was the biggest casino hotel in Macau and was the only spot in Asia where high rollers were able to enjoy a lavish lifestyle. The early 2000 marked the beginning of Western invasion to Macau. Sands Macau was the first casino operated by an American company to be opened in Macau. Sands Macau was build by the Las Vegas Sands, the Las Vegas based company that owns and operates the Venetian in Las Vegas. The 3 billion dollar hotel has changed the face of Macau by offering Las Vegas style entertainment to the Asian game capital. The 165,000 square foot gambling area offers more than 900 slot machines and over 430 table games including Baccarat, Fan Tan, Caribbean Stud Poker, Blackjack, Sic Bo and Roulette in addition to an exclusive VIP area. Following the success of Sands Macau, several top American game companies have begun developing casino resorts in Macau. The Cotai Strip in Macau, a 100,000 square meter reclamation located between two islands, is already known as the Las Vegas Strip of the Far East. Here you can read about some of the most notable Macau casinos currently in development. Wynn Resorts, the tycoon from Las Vegas will be opening the Wynn Macau in the autumn of 2006. Wynn Macau promises to mark the next generation of wagering experience in Macau. The first phase of Wynn Macau will include 100,000 square feet of playing area including a 10,000 square feet VIP casino, while the second phase will feature an additional 136,000 square feet game area, a theatre, restaurants and retails shops. The second phase of the project is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2007. MGM Grand, the first of Las Vegas casinos to offer all family entertainment, is currently collaborating with Stanley Hos daughter, Pansy Ho Chiu King, on the development of MGM Grand Macau. The 28 story resort will include a 222,000 square foot game area with about 1,000 slot machines and 300 table games. In addition, the property will feature a 1500 seat theater, nightclub, meeting and convention space, spa and nine restaurants. MGM Grand Macau opening is planned to 2007. Jack Reider is enthusiastic about land based and online casinos gambling, and he loves trying out new casinos in exotic locations. By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Marty_Smith]Marty Smith You can easily find yourself in a trap in turbo sit and go tournaments, if you actually go on a streak and win a few. The truth of it is, they WILL eventually send you spiraling in such a way that can render you unfit for real life. That is not a prediction, but rather a mathematical surety. To prove this point, do a little exercise by loading up and viewing a few 20+ buck sngs on any site. Select a few of what seem to be the more solid players, (rounders) and do a deep level search on their statistics at SharkScope. SharkScope can tell a lot of truth about a player and if you discover somebodys ROI quite high, like 20% or more, check to see how many turbos they play. What you will find, proof positive, is that winning players DO NOT play turbos with any regularity if at all. It is simply not mathematically profitable to do so, no matter how good you are. The main substance of this derives from the fact that after 3 or 4 levels your game is essentially left up to the randomness of the deck, thus virtually eliminating the skill aspect in the latter half of the tournament. It is the same analogy between playing poker or blackjack. The best blackjack teachers admit your goal should be not to lose money since the odds (house) are always against you long term. Long term, it is a losing proposition. How many professional blackjack players are there? When the games structure reduces or eliminates the skill factor, then the rounders will know it just by glancing at this information window, and thus, by and large avoiding that type of tournament. Luck is not part of the rounder game. Rounders dwell on winning percentages, return on investment and bankroll strategies and because they do, a random winner type format just cannot fit into that overall plan. The only time I find turbos [http://www.mzonereport.com]poker tournaments acceptable is for fun or social event. If you are going out with the guys or girls, most home style, one table tournaments are well suited for turbo style blinds if only to prevent the last 2 or 3 players left dont monopolize the poker table too long. Consider your 10 or 20 bucks in those situations entertainment. Oh yeah, and you better know what chance your 76 suited has against AQos. If you want some silly fun and are drinking with your friends, by all means go turbo. If you want to build your online bankroll, get a brain on. Marty Smith is webmaster and a regular online poker player. He has a FREE Sit and GO Video Strategy Series on his website at http://www.PokerSitandGoReport.com . If We are So Good as Practitioners, Why Are We So Bad at Delivering?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Philip_Christie] Philip Christie Dental practice in Ireland is of the highest standards in the world. That is also true of our medical practice. Our teachers at our hospitals are, in many ways, quite extraordinary. They have strong academic backgrounds and training, and are committed genuine and passionate people. These people are given the job of training undergraduate and graduate students to the highest possible standards of knowledge and practice and that is what they give their all to accomplish. When students qualify they are committed first class graduates for the most part. This is all great news. So where is the problem? The ideal versus the real world Many medical and dental graduates will tell you about the culture shock that they experience when they come out into what is called the real world. We have been trained to provide the Gold Standard in treatment but suddenly we are expected to do our work under pressure. The cruel task-master going by the name economics but better known simply as money comes in to take control all of our activities and this is where our problems really begin. The exacting and exhaustive precision with which we were trained to provide excellence of service comes into clear and sharp conflict with the constraints of money and the other well known lord of economics time. These omnipotent dictators are of course related to each other. How often is the dictum proclaimed, sometimes with a sigh, sometimes triumphantly, sometimes almost reverently, but always with faith and conviction. Time Is Money we are assured. Is this the same job I learned in the hospital? To give you all some idea of the size of this culture shock that I refer to, consider this. A job which would take up to two hours as a student under supervision is now afforded maybe 15 - 20 minutes. This is a speed up factor of 4-6 times the taught rate in the Teaching Clinic. This jump in speed is expected to be accomplished immediately and is experienced as real pressure by the new graduate. Yet in this real world it is Time and Money which must have pride of place. We must now speed up so that we can be acceptable in the market place in terms of how long the job takes and how much the job costs. We are still expected to produce the Gold Standard which we were trained to provide in the hospital situation, yet the conditions in which these standards were obtained are now drastically different. The pressure has begun. Government and politicians will safeguard the sanctity of the healing arts? As if all that was not bad enough, we now allow/decide that authority in healthcare is the business of politicians and government. They become the paymasters and who pays the piper calls the tune. Suddenly, what we do and how we do it is being evaluated by people who know nothing of the burden of duty and responsibility that comes with the allegiance to Hippocrates. Next comes our dealing with Government Departments. Remember that I am not talking about the people in these departments. They are merely trying to do the job that they were asked to do. I am talking about the systems. So the Department is going to provide Treatment for workers but it has limited resources. So it negotiates a deal to have work done by dentists/doctors at reduced cost. This is not a real negotiation because dentists are made to feel that unless they give in, they will lose their livelihood. So they agree to reduced fees. Now the pressure intensifies because the required standard remains the same but the time allowed to achieve it is reduced. All decisions have consequences? Needless to say the increasing strain puts pressure on all the components of the system. The practitioner is under pressure in many ways. The cost of being in practice, wages, insurances, rents, rates, materials, laboratory are high to begin with. These increase year on year but the pressure is always intense to keep fees down. The first pressure is self-induced. This stems from the perception that people will not come to the practice if the prices are too high and so fear of the loss of business rules. State funded schemes are always at very reduced fees and so are a burden to the practice anyway. The solution to the problem is to either increase fees (and the fear of loss that comes with this is very strong) or do more work. Doing more work will involve either longer hours or working faster to get more done. Maybe it will involve a bit of both. Look in honesty and without defensiveness.
There are many consequences to the decision which many have to work longer and/or faster. The study of these consequences reveals the very origins of the hazards that have come to be associated with modern general practice. While I can appreciate that it may be difficult to look upon these truths, surely it must be good news to find the origin of the problem. For only in identifying the cause of a problem can a solution becomes possible. The alternative is to continue with the same methods which are bringing as much pain and suffering to the practitioners as they are to the people that they purport to serve. How ironic and indeed unbelievable that we have not noticed that our healthcare system as it is currently constructed is causing the sickness and pain that it was set up to eliminate? Is this really what we want? As we look honestly at our methods and the results they bring, how can we say that we are satisfied that we are going in the right direction. As we analyse the consequences of how we operate our systems and see how one things leads to another, it must become obvious that the most radical change is needed. When will we bring some light to the hell that we have created and continue mindlessly and blindly to support? We like to think of ourselves as scientists but since what we do and continue to do is totally illogical we cannot apply the term meaningfully. Science must be logical to be itself and a lack of logic is a lack of science. To continue to use something which brings the opposite of what it was designed for, speaks volumes about the blindness that operates in healthcare. What hope could there be in asking blindness for direction? What can we deliver from blindness but chaos and confusion. My name is Philip Christie. I qualified as a Dental Surgeon at Trinity College, Dublin (Ireland) in 1980 and completed a Masters Programme in Dental Science, again at Trinity College Dublin, by research in 1995. I have been working full time in dental care either in general practice or specialist practice since qualification. My main interest is and always has been prevention. Getting Started: 5 Things You Need to Decide When You Get Started with a Job Search
By Jeff Altman There are few things more frustrating for a headhunter than asking a person basic questions that revolve around what you as a job hunter are looking for in a job and being given uncertain answers. Im not talking about salary; thats a question where a wise person states a target objective and is flexible enough to let the market decide their value. Im speaking about these basic questions: 1. What is your current compensation? The three wrong answers are: (1) a lie (A lie will be found out generally after youre hired. You know what happens then? While youre out to lunch or have gone home one day, your ability to login while be terminated and security will be waiting for you at your desk with your personal items packed to escort you from the premises). (2) I wont tell you (This reveals that your salary is much lower than the amount advertised and that you are seeking a big bump). (3) Do you really need to know that (Yes. I do because my client will want to know. They will ask it on their form. Many companies will terminate an interview for refusing to answer) ? 2. Geographically, whats acceptable to you. Some people are willing to drive more than others. Some people must follow mass transit routes. Some people are willing to relocate at a companys expense or are willing to relocate on their own for the right opportunity. Think about it. 3. Whats not working for you that is prompting you to want to look for another job? Most of the time, money is not the only factor. Be prepared to discuss your reasons maturely. An immature answer would be, I hate my job, or My boss is an idiot. Instead, try this oneI would like to leave consulting and move to industry so that I can avoid the heavy travel that is keeping me away from my family too much. 4. What are you looking for in a new position? Nine times out of ten, people dont think of this when they speak to me. What am I supposed to do? Guess? I know it when I see it isnt helpful either. 5. What was the corporate culture like that you were working in? Did you like it? What did you like about it? What didnt you care for? Let me know if I should replicate your current work environment in your next firm with more money and more interesting work . . . or not! Take some time before posting your resume to decide what is important to you and you will find that your interviews will be better . . . and so will your results! Water is the only known substance that exists naturally as a solid, liquid and gas on the earths surface. Almost 97% of the earths water is too salty to drink. Most of the fresh water is in glaciers and ice caps. Less than 1% of the earths water is available for our use. We must conserve the water available to us. Ground water flows underground through the soil and rocks. Ground water supplies wells and springs. Surface water is above ground in lakes, swamps, rivers and ground ice. EARTHS WATER Saltwater:
Oceans, seas, and bays 96.5%
Freshwater: 3.5%
Icecaps, glaciers and permanent snow 1.74%
Ground water 1.7 0%
Lakes 0.013%
Swamp water and rivers 0.001%
Soil moisture and atmosphere 0.002%
Ground Ice 0.022%
Other 0.022% _________________________________________________________________________ Stage Two: PreLab
Answer questions before completing the activity 1. Carefully read the directions for the activity. Read everything. Dont just skim it. 2. Write at least one question you have about the activity. 3. Brainstorm everything that you know about water distribution. Write as much as you can. Dont be concerned about spelling or editing. 4. What is the overall purpose of the activity? Write one sentence describing how what you are being asked to do today will help you learn about water distribution. What will completing this activity teach you about water supply and distribution? _________________________________________________________________________ Stage Three: InLab
Complete during the activity Materials:
1000 mL beaker
100 mL graduated cylinder
6 small jars
Food coloring
Eyedropper
Seven 3 X 5 cards Procedure: Check off each step after you complete it. ____ 1. Fill the 1000 mL beaker with tap water. The full beaker represents all of earths water. ____ 2. Pour 35 mL of water from the beaker into the 100 mL graduated cylinder. The 35 mL represents all of earths fresh water. The 965 mL left in the beaker represents the saltwater in the oceans. ____ 3. Add a few drops of food coloring to both beakers. Make saltwater and fresh water different colors. ____ 4. Divide the 35 mL of fresh water by pouring it into the smaller jars. ____A. Pour 174 mL into the first jar. This represents the fresh water in glaciers and icecaps. ____B. Pour 170 mL into the second jar to represent groundwater. ____C. Pour 13 mL into the third jar to represent water in lakes. ____D. Place 1 drops into the fourth jar to represent water in rivers and swamps. ____E. Place 2 drops into the fifth jar to represent the water in the atmosphere and soil. ____F. Pour 22 mL into the sixth jar to represent ground ice. ____ 5. Label a 3 x 5 card with:
A. glaciers and icecaps
B. underground
C. lakes
D. rivers and swamps
E. atmosphere and soil
F. ground ice
G. saltwater ____ 6. Place each 3 x 5 card you made in front of the jar or beaker it goes with. Draw a picture of your jars and beaker under observations. ____ 7. Use your results to answer these questions. 1. Where is most of earths water? 2. Where is most of earths fresh water? _________________________________________________________________________ Stage Four: PostLab
Write a lab report
You will begin by describing in writing the materials and methods you used and then your results. You will write a summarizing paragraph. Section One
Materials and Methods: Describing the procedure Write one paragraph describing the procedure you followed during this activity. Make sure to use enough detail about your materials and methods that someone else could repeat your procedure. Hint: Refer to your PreLab, this handout, background materials, the textbook and any notes you took during the activity. Section Two Results: Making sense of your data for yourself and others Step 1: Review all the data from your experiment. Summarize the main finding of the activity in one sentence. Step 2: Conclusions
Answer the questions in complete sentences.
1. Should cities near the ocean use the water from the ocean for household and industry? Explain your answer. 2. Should saltwater be treated to remove the salt and then used as fresh water? 3. Is water in icecaps and glaciers accessible to humans? Why or why not? 4. How can we conserve our fresh water? Section Three
Discussion: Interpreting the results Step 1: Write a one-sentence statement of your conclusion(s) about the results. Step 2: Write a paragraph stating how the data from your activity should influence future decisions about water conservation, use and supply? Note: This activity incorporates the premise of the college LabWrite program developed by North Carolina State University: http://www.ncsu.edu/labwrite/ Trina Allen left a successful career as a middle school teacher to concentrate on her writing. The Amortization Calculator That You Need On Your Site
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Arseniy_Olevskiy]Arseniy Olevskiy An amortization calculator is a tool that home mortgage buyers are looking for. Throughout the web, thousands of people are looking for the home of their dreams. You know it and you have set up a great website full of the information and the lenders they need to get the loan they have been after. And, you can even help them find the lowest rates possible too. But, if your customers come to your website only to find that you do not offer an amortization calculator on it, you are likely to have them look elsewhere which in turn leaves you with lost sales. Why This One? You ask why this one. The answer is simple. With quick and easy set up why not? Quality is provided through this product. The amortization calculator itself is user friendly for your customers. They will simply input a few pieces of information and within seconds have the results that they need. But, it is also beneficial to you. Unlike other products available to you, the amortization calculator will provide you with the service under ten minutes. Installations and integration is fast. More so, it is also easy. So, on your part and on the customers part is a good move. Why Do They Want It Anyway? The amortization calculator provides the user with many pieces of very important information. First, it will allow them to know how much their home will actually cost them. It will provide information as far as the amount of interest as well as principal they can expect to pay. They can even see the payments and where they will go (towards principal or towards interest) in the amortization schedule provided by the calculator. But, more importantly, it can help them to see what their monthly mortgage payment will be. How much home can they afford? Most people do not realize their true abilities in purchasing a home. With an amortization calculator, this is provided to them. This is the key because once they realize how much they can afford; they are likely to begin the commitment process. When you use the amortization calculator provided here, you will likely have little to not trouble installing and integrating it. Also, you will be provided with full instructions as well for installation and integration. This makes your job that much easier and the benefits far outweigh the ten minutes it will take for you to get it onto the site in the first place. The Bottom Line Having an amortization calculator on your website will provide your customers with the tools they need to find the right mortgage for them. They can easily compare loans and they can build a trust in your website. This trust will likely bring them back time and time again. Or, they may just contact your lender right then and there. If you do not have one of these tools on your site, you are risking those customers to go to someone elses website that does offer them. An amortization calculator can increase your sales. How to Use Your Business Cards
By Jake Gourd Business cards are useful for marketing anything, and can reasonably be held by anyone. Jobseekers, the self employed and even the singleton looking for a date can benefit from carrying business cards to market what they can offer, and give their customers (or potential lovers) a convienient way of exchanging details. Jobseekers, you may have a cv and think you dont need business cards. Can you carry 10 cvs in your wallet? Is it possible to carry your cv everywhere you go ? Music from a ice cream van lets people know they are open for business. Your business card is your music. The following are proven tips on how to use your business cards to create business opportunities or make a memorable impression on anyone. 1. Any meeting is a chance to distribute your business card. A walk in the park or trip to the supermarket could be and often is a great time to network. Make carrying business cards a habit, and ask your self if you have business cards before leaving leaving the house as you do your wallet and keys. 2. Bills contain advertisements. Why cant you advertise yourself in the same way? Add a business card when making bill payments. Insert a business card with your payment. Everyone of us knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone etc. Developing a powerful attitude to your business cards and netowrking will be a fundamental source of success. 3. Insist on proper business card etiquette. Whenever you hand out a business card, ask for a business card in return. When given a business card, make the person feel important by looking at their card for a few seconds. You might see something that could be a topic of conversation. Write notes on the card such as date, location and common points of interest. These comments will prove valuable when following up with that person. This also demonstrates a sincere interest in the other person. Make people feel important, in order to make yourself important to them. 4. Be generous. Give business cards out to everyone you know, including family and friends. Give more than one business card to people so that they can easily refer your services. Hoarding your business cards only makes your wallet feel full, not your bank account. 5. Maximize the potential of every meeting or social event. You never know when you might meet someone who can help you. You never know who you might meet. 5 Reasons Why Your Next Trade Show Display Should Be a Truss Display System
By Bob Albright With all the inexpensive popup trade show displays on the market today, particularly on the internet, suggesting spending a little more money for a larger, heavier display may sound counter -productive. The following 5 reasons will help explain why that is not so: 1) Expandability - Because most portable display truss is built in a modular fashion using easy to connect parts the display you design initially may be changed for future use. You can start with a 10' display and at a point in future (when you've discovered trade show marketing works) that very same 10' display's modular parts can be used in a new 20x20 island that looks completely new. No popup display can do this. The modular nature of truss displays allows for replacement parts to be obtained, if needed. Most popup displays require the purchase of an entirely new display or major component for repair. 2) Utility - Because of the materials used truss has much greater utility that traditional displays. By combining modular truss parts constructed of steel the display you create from truss has load bearing capabilities. Now you can easily have weight carrying counter tops for computers or plasma screens. Our truss products even have specific plasma screen hanging hardware. Hang computer CRTs, plasma screens or looped digital presentations right in traffic areas. None of the inexpensive popup displays you find on the internet today can do this. 3) Portability - Modular truss systems are constructed of component parts with smaller dimensions that allows them to be packed in a small enough cases to be UPS shippable. (Larger cases are available that would allow the entire displays to be packed in one case that would be shipped by truck freight if desired.) 4) Ease of Use - Modular truss systems have simple screw type connectors that allow the component parts to be assembled with the use of a simple tool (screw driver or allen wrench). Because you only put up one small piece of the display at a time it is easier to assemble for smaller people because they don't have to lift heavy weights. Some truss now available has snap together components requiring no tools. 5) Appearance - This is probably the biggest advantage of truss type booths. There aren't 100,000 of these systems out there that all have the same curved appearance.Truss systems are futuristic in their appearance, can be configured in numerous different ways to fill the same 10 or 20 foot booth space and using their load carrying capability can include items such as computers, plasma screens, actual product pedestals that the old cookie cutter booths could never do. There is nothing better than showing a prospective customer your actual product (from a product pedestal) as opposed to having them try and imagine it from a brochure. Before you decide that spending extra money for a truss booth is not what you should do, consider this: How much are you going to spend on trade shows over the next 5-10 years (other than on displays)? For some people it may be $100,000 to $200,000. If you spend an extra $2,000 on your display that represents from 1 2% of your total budget. The standard popup display would have to be replaced (probably) about 3 times during that period. You end up saving money in the long run and have a better, more flexible, more utilized trade show display in the process. Bob Albright has been designing and selling trade show displays since 1982. Computer Consulting: Do't Market the 90's Way
By Joshua Feinberg The 90s was a time of certification for computer consulting businesses. Everyone touted what formal partnerships they had with what major corporations. Hire us because were a Novell certified shop or Hire us because were an IBM business partner. Most consultants arent leading with that anymore because they dont want to be perceived as an extension of that company sales force. They want to be perceived as their own brand of computer consulting. The Benefits of Partner Programs Have Disappeared In the old days, you used to get big MDS and co-op advertising when you were in a partner program. Those days are rapidly ending, so theres really no financial reason for sticking their logo all over the place anymore. Spend more time branding yourself as opposed to just focusing on the solutions that you represent. Stick To The Products You Know Naturally when you get new computer consulting prospects and youre taking them through the qualification stages and sales calls, youre going to tend to recommend the solutions that youre most comfortable with. If youre authorized to belong to a program, youre going to recommend that particular solution. Thats fine, but don't make your marketing message focus on just that particular product or that particular platform. Don't Become a Commodity If you do, you open yourself up to commodity priced competition. Your prospects will ask why they should buy their NetWare license from you if they can get it cheaper on the Web or through mail order. Dont open yourself to a bidding war. That way of marketing is dated. Its pass. You are much better off if you market what your computer consulting business can do for your client! Copyright MMI-MMVI, Computer Consulting Blog. Lucky Dip for Loan Applicants
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Challiner]Michael Challiner Things are not looking too rosy on the loans front. It appears that there are huge problems with debt in the UK. Banks are increasingly nervous about the state of things and feel that lending is risky at present as a result of this. The result is an increasing number of rejections of loan applications. Most of the major banks have taken the decision to introduce a new process, called personal pricing, which involves the matching of the rate offered to the result of your credit investigations. If you have an excellent credit rating youll receive the optimum loan offer and conversely a poor rating will cost you more in interest, or even result in your application being rejected. Whilst this sounds a perfectly logical decision, its going to prove difficult for consumers, who will have trouble in choosing the most suitable lender if theyre not aware of the interest rate theyre likely to be offered. There could be problems though, if having gone through the application procedure, the rate on offer is too high. If you reject the deal you risk your credit record being damaged. Each time you make an application for a loan, a footprint will be left on your file. A number of these will make loan companies very wary of offering credit. Its probably most likely that your own existing bank will be able to arrange a loan, although it is probably not going to be as competitive as other deals on offer on the market. High street banks are not known for offering the best rates. Many people use comparison tables, via websites, to find the cheapest lenders. Obviously the companies using the personal pricing method cant be included in the tables as they dont publish a typical rate. Of the banks that still use headline rates in their advertising, lenders are refusing loans for high proportions of applicants and the successful applicants are being offered loans at a higher rate than that advertised. The Consumer Credit Act of 2004 requires lenders advertising loans using typical rates to offer that rate of at least 66% of successful borrowers. This rule is obviously not valid where an advertisement does not include a typical rate. Its going to be a struggle to find the best deals with these hidden interest rates, which is surely going to cause confusion. A recent survey of around 3,000 would-be borrowers showed some surprising results. Four out of ten applicants were turned down for a loan within 48 hours. A quarter of applicants had their loans approved and the remainder were still awaiting a decision on the loan several days later. Its thought likely that only around half of these applications will result in a loan being granted. Obviously some help is needed to avoid multiple applications and possible rejections. The easiest way to find whats happening in the loan market is to log on to the internet and find an on-line financial advisor. Theyll have all the latest news and advice and theyre there to give you all the support you may need. Nokia Cellular Phone Model E62 - Smart, Powerful, Impressive!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Angela_Tomlinson]Angela Tomlinson Tools for convenience All the standard cellular phone features are built in to the Nokia E62 as expected. Vibrating alert, speakerphone, polyphonic ringer, caller ID to name a few. Furthermore, the handset offers capability for 6-way conference calls, picture IDs with specified ringtones and a mini SD slot supporting cards up to 2GB. Useful if the E62's 80mb fixed memory is not sufficient although the card slot is slightly inconveniently placed behind the battery cover. The essentials are all in there too; alarm clock, calculator, notepad and currency converter. In addition, this clever device supports Adobe Reader and Zip Manager. Main Features Mobile Email Email protocols supported - POP3, SMTP, IMAP Bluetooth and Infrared Technology MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint support SMS, MMS & IM messaging Symbian operating system 16 million color display, 320 x 240 pixel resolutionDesign In a slim, silver casing, the Nokia cellular phone model E62 does not let the side down with its sophisticated appearance. The full QWERTY keyboard is a dream to use, and the navigation system shouldn't pose any problems using the built in joystick. Boasting a 2.8 inch screen, a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and up to 16 million colors, the display is large, bright and impressive. The E62 does not have an integrated camera, and while the block style handset can be cumbersome to use as a phone, this is easily solved by connecting a hands-free headset. Technology Battery life from the standard Li-ion battery means that Nokia E62 users will get the best out of 6 hours of talk time, and up to 332 hours on standby. A handy feature is the one button email access, with support for POP3, IMAP, SMTP and Microsoft Exchange Server, along with capable handling of email attachments. Running with Symbian operating system OS 9.1, the Nokia E62 lets users edit and view Microsoft Office documents including Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Wireless connectivity options include Bluetooth, GPRS and WAP 2.0, or there's the Nokia browser. The Nokia E62 uses EDGE rather than the newer high speed technology, and does not have Wi-Fi integrated in its system. Depending on the volume of their internet usage, this could be a problem for some people. Audio and video The music player (MP3/AAC) incorporated into the Nokia cellular phone model E62 offers users good quality sound through the stereo headset. Video and audio streaming is supported by Real Player, however file types are limited to MPEG-4 and 3GPP formats. Selecting a Lender
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Rebecca_Game]Rebecca Game Selecting a lender can be as tedious and detailed a process as preparing a business plan or loan proposal. Many business owners and potential business owners are so concerned about being approved on a business loan that they forget the importance in selecting a lender. If you already have a bank or credit union in which you have maintained a long-term relationship, it's logical to consider that particular financial institution when selecting a lender. Your bank that you currently use for personal and/or business accounts is very familiar with you and your financial history. If that history is positive, it could play in your favor. A large part of the lender's risk is the uncertainty regarding the loan repayment. By selecting a lender in which you already have a relationship, it can greatly reduce the uncertainty about your and your business, putting you in a better position of being approved for a loan. If you have a mortgage with a bank, that same bank is probably a good place to start inquiring about a business loan when you're focused on selecting a lender. If you have reason not to use a lender in which you have a current or past relationship, consider selecting a lender who *wants* your loan business. Sources for these lenders can be found in the business section of your local newspaper for special financing offers. When selecting a lender in this nature, also consider searching both the yellow pages and the internet. Lenders that are actively looking for small businesses in need of loans often offer a quicker process of obtaining a loan than other lending institutions. In the instance that you are a bank customer, consider a credit union when selecting a lender. Because credit unions are generally smaller, you may be able to talk directly with higher level decision makers to state your loan proposal. Larger banks tend to have more rigid rules and processes associated with small business loans. Even if the person you talk to regarding your business loan believes in you, he or she may not be able to help you other than to take your information and present it to the decision makers in writing. Be aware of several choices for lenders before selecting a lender for your loan proposal. Even if you feel that your first choice of a lender will approve your loan application, look into several other lenders before selecting a lender to provide your loan. 1. Make sure that the lender is sincerely interested in your business.
If you get the feeling that your loan is "just another number," for example, it may be safe to go with your instincts and search for a different lender. 2. Confirm that you'll receive the services that you desire for your loan.
When selecting a bank or other lender, be sure to select one that will provide you with the services you need. As an example, if online banking is important to you due to its convenient features, don't select a bank that charges for these services, or one that doesn't offer a full range of services that will make your loan experience easier and more convenient for you. 2. Choose a lender that "feels right" in everything that it can offer you and your business.
Selecting a lender, and ultimately choosing a lender, should include the idea that this is a lender in which you feel comfortable with developing a long-term relationship. Focus on the value of your business to the community, and what its future deposits could mean to the bank. The lender should treat you with respect, and should respect your business ideas. When selecting a lender, consider the following questions: - Does the lender have an industry specialty related to your specific business? - What is the average size business in which the lender typically approves for loans? - What are the details of the lender's loan client professional backgrounds? Is the lender more of a commercial or consumer lender? - How long has the lender been in business? These questions to ask when selecting a lender are important for a few reasons. Whether you patronize a large commercial bank or a small community bank depends on the needs of your business. Major banks tend to offer a wider range of services and locations, which may be important if your business has the need for a variety of financial products and services. Smaller, community banks, on the other hand, may allow you the opportunity to work with a banker that will directly make the decision as to whether or not to loan you the money, or may have close ties with the bank hierarchy. This might allow the banker, or loan officer, to offer positive feedback to the bank president on your behalf. It might also move the loan process along much more swiftly. When finally making your decision on a first choice for a lender, file your application and loan proposal with that lender. If, for whatever reason, the loan is declined, try your second choice. Take the time needed, and be patient, both with selecting a lender and obtaining a small business loan. Doing so will offer rewards in the end. Ten Poker Tips for Bigger Online Profits
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Todd]Stephen Todd Many players wanting to play online poker for the first time think it is easier than it really is to make big money. While you can make big money, you need to be prepared. Here are ten tips that will help you maximize your winnings in online poker: Poker Tip 1: Know Your Game When playing online poker for the first time, it is best not to jump in at the deep end, but learn the basics first and then play free games until you are comfortable with the way you play. Poker Tip 2: Focus on One Game of Poker Many new players try out all variations of poker at once, which is a mistake - concentrate on one game and get familiar with it. This will help you focus and develop a clear strategy. Do you want to play seven card stud, Texas hold'em or Omagh hold'em? Decide in advance. Poker Tip 3: Allocate Your Budget Set your bankroll and stick with it. Don't be tempted to chase losses and have a profit target where you quit the table. Poker is fun and you can make big money, but don't start committing money you cannot afford to lose. Poker Tip 4: Be Selective with the Hands that You Play Playing to many hands will lose you money; you need to be selective and patient. You need to discipline yourself to fold when you have a bad hand, you might want to bluff sometimes, but don't do it too often and only do it in the right circumstances. Poker Tip 5: Learn Other Player's Strategy Other players are watching you and your strategy and you need to do the same to them. By working out their play, you can gain an extra edge and enhance your winnings from the pot. To win at poker you need to fully focus on your strategy, if not you will probably lose. Poker Tip 7: Bet Correctly betting correctly and taking risks is an essential part of winning at poker. #7 Auburn Tigers Preview
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Matt_Fargo]Matt Fargo Fall camps are under way and the regular season will be here soon so that means getting an early jump on the 2006 NCAA football season. Knowing the teams now will save you time and author is here to help you get a grasp of what to expect this upcoming year. We go from worst to first in this 2006 College Football Preview. #7 Auburn Tigers 9-3 SU; 8-3 ATS Fargos Take The other SEC Tigers team is next on the list as Auburn will be the one team to challenge LSU in the SEC West. The Tigers return most of the cogs from their 9-3 season and they will be looking to get back to the SEC Championship after missing it last year. LSU defeated Auburn in overtime which was the ultimate tiebreaker for the West title and it was a game that should have been won as Auburn missed five field goals. A disappointing loss to Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl should have this team very motivated this season. The Tigers had the top ranked offense in the SEC a season ago and it will be potent once again led by quarterback Brandon Cox and tailback Kenny Irons. The defense finished 6th in scoring last year and will be one of if not the fastest defense in the conference. The schedule is nearly just the opposite to that of LSU and that is the main reason Auburn gets the nod to take the division and makes a solid run at the National Championship. Returning Starters on Offense 6 There was not a whole lot on offense heading into 2005 as Jason Campbell, Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams all had to be replaced so it was expected to be a down year. The exact opposite took place as Cox finished with 2,324 yards along with 15 touchdowns and just eight interceptions while Irons went from backup tailback to starter and led the SEC in rushing. This season, the loss of the top three receivers will be tough to overcome but there is plenty of young talent that will be asked to contribute right away. Courtney Taylor is the only senior starter and he will be the go to guy. The other big concern is lack of depth along the offensive line. Three starters are back but the second team is made up of three sophomores and a redshirt freshman. All in all, the unit does not expect to dropoff much. Returning Starters on Defense 6 Auburn will be pegged as one of the top defenses in the conference yet again. The Tigers finished 19th in the country in total defense last year and they are once again strong from front to back. The front seven lost five players to graduation but it is still extremely experienced with four seniors leading the way. The best player is Will Herring, who is the starting strongside linebacker after starting the last three years at safety. He is such a good athlete that he will likely be an All-SEC selection yet again despite a position change. The secondary brings back both corners and depth at safety is strong which allowed Herring to move up. The biggest concern isnt on the field but on the sidelines as Will Muschamp will be the Tigers third defensive coordinator in the last three years. Schedule Auburn gets the edge over LSU because of the schedule. The non-conference portion is extremely easy with Washington St., Buffalo, Tulane and Arkansas St. being four easy wins. The best part is that those games are spread out and not bunched together at the start of the season. The SEC slate is obviously difficult but the four toughest games are all at home, which is the exact opposite of LSU. Home games against LSU, Florida, Arkansas and Georgia are all winnable which likely would not be the case if they were on the road. The road slate starts easy with Mississippi St., South Carolina and Mississippi being the first three with the Iron Bowl at Alabama being the toughest of the bunch to close out the year. You can bet on Yes, the Tigers have a difficult SEC schedule but this team has gone 16-1 within the conference over the last two seasons and with the difficult games all being played in Jordan-Hare Stadium, going undefeated in the conference is not all that implausible. Some breaks will have to their way but this team is strong throughout and will make it tough for anyone else out of the West to catch them. Auburn has had a winning ATS record in three of the last four years, going 30-17-1 against the number over that span. This includes a 15-6-1 ATS mark over the last two years but trying to keep up that pace will be difficult. Expect to see some big numbers being given by the Tigers as the public is well aware of their recent success and will be riding it out as far as it possibly can.
